Ian Davenport is a contemporary artist most famous for his Poured Lines or "puddle" paintings. His abstract works, reminiscent of Morris Louis' colour field "Unfurled" series from the 1960's, explore colour, line, and process.

His technique involves leaning a sheet of metal at an almost-vertical angle and then proceeding to pour paint from top to bottom. Here, gravity takes control over the dictation of the colour flow, however the outcome still appears very controlled due to the regimented linear aesthetic, until your eye reaches the bottom where the colours begin to pool and merge.
